If you cannot register for your class because it is full, please go on our waiting list. The aquatic department opens and cancels classes a week prior to the new session. If we have enough members who want a specific day and time, we will open another class.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR CLASS OR LESSON
Rules: Please adhere to our pool rules and regulations. Copies of these rules can be found at the front desk, pool area and on pool wall once you enter the pool.
Make-ups: Sorry, we cannot do make-ups for any classes missed.
Credit/Refund Policy: For a credit: You must miss more than half of your classes and have a doctor's note supporting those days missed to receive a partial credit. There is an $8.00 processing fee per class for credits and refunds. We do not refund for any class unless we cancelled the class, with the exception of weather, which is out of our control. See the front desk for the forms needed.
Parents on deck: Parents are invited to watch the first and last classes from the pool deck. Your presence may be a distraction for your child and the instructor. Just think how excited they will be to show you what they learned on the last class.
Question for instructor: If you have a "quick "question for your instructor it can be asked before your child's class or seek out the deck supervisor. If it is an in depth question, please understand the instructor will not be able to answer your question until their lessons are over for the day. Just write down your question and leave it at the front desk. Someone from the aquatic department will be in touch with you in 48 hours.
Shower: Take a cool, soap shower before swimming to lower your body temperature. This makes the pool water feel warmer.
Open wounds/sick: Please refrain from entering the pool if you have chewing gum, band-aids, open wounds, or have or are recovering from diarrhea.
Swim diapers: Swim diapers only (no paper diapers) preferably covered by tight fitting plastic pants.
Hair: Shoulder length and longer needs to be tied back (male and female). We keep new extra hair ties located at both glass doors on the pool deck in case you forgot yours.
Food and Drinks: No Food & drink is permitted on the pool deck, with exception of water. Only plastic containers are allowed in the locker room, pool deck or in back hallway.
Walking on deck: Walk on the pool deck, our floors are very slippery (children on wall side for safety reasons). In the locker room, hold younger children's hand.
Diving: Diving is permitted at the 10' (window end).
Restrooms: Have children use the bathroom before class.
Drying area: Dry off in the "drying area" of the locker room. This is the area between the showers and lockers where the white table is located. We ask this so the locker room area is dry, so no one slips.
Shoes: No shoes worn outside, i.e. - deck shoes and or flip flops may be worn on the pool deck.
Youth Locker room: BOYS 6 years & older must use the "Male Youth" locker room, not the Women's.We understand that you do not want your child to go into the locker room alone, but we have a suggestion. If you go through the gym and down the back hallway you will come to the steam room on your left. The youth shower room is right there. Moms can stand next to the steam room and be able to talk to your sons without being in the room. They can dress and undress there.
Lighting and thunder: When lightning is in the area, the pool area must be cleared. Sorry we do not refund or give credits for lightning and or thunder since it is an act of GOD and out of our control.
Glass doors: Please do not use the glass door exiting to the lobby during classes. The reason we ask this is because the lobby air is much cooler than the pool deck air. The cold air rushes in and makes the children in the closer lanes very cold and could potentially distract the children and instructors.
Strollers and walkers: Stroller and walkers are allowed on deck. We just ask that they are not blocking the deck so others can get by.
Pool usage: Only Full members may use the pool between classes when there are open lanes.
Swim test and parental supervision: Any child 15 and under or a polliwog level or lower must pass a swim test to swim unassisted from parents and or guardians in both ends of the pool. Guppies and higher and YMCA swim team kids do not have to swim test, but must have their name documented in our log book.
Non swimmers and 6-12 years old and older:Who do not pass our swim test must swim in the shallow end only and have an adult on the deck while they swim. Non-swimmers are not permitted in the deep end regardless of age or equipment used.
Children 5 years and younger or less than four feet tall:Must be accompanied by an adult (18 and older) in the water. Children must be within arm's reach of adult while swimming. No more than 2 children per adult.
Videotaping/Pictures: Videotaping and taking photos of children is prohibited at the YMCA.
Preschool age children:will not be dismissed from pool area until a parent appears at the back glass doors.
Questions: For the department: If you have a question or problem please call the aquatic department during Monday-Friday during the day so we can assist you.
ARI: Aquatic Registration Information (ARI) slips will be handed out 3 weeks before the end of the current session. This will indicate the level your child will be if you are registering for the next session. Bring slip to register-In-person or Mail-in, along with your membership card info. Enrollment is limited. If absent that week, the slips will be on file at the Front Desk when you come to register. Mail-in registration is available if you are unable to come. You may use the "Aquatic Registration Information" slip as amail-in form. They are processed at the end of the day. Registration is on a first come first serve basis.
We do not hold spaces for members. Registration can also be completed on-line. You can register on
your day (full or basic member starting at 8:00 am)
How and Where to enter the pool
Once you enter the YMCA, please check in at the front desk
Locker rooms are located to the right of the front desk down the hall. They are on the left hand side.
Once in the locker rooms, please place all items in a secured locker. Bring a lock if you have one.
Leave your shower items and towel on the white table in the drying area. This way when you are done your class you can just grab your stuff and shower.
If you have a little one. There is a separate dressing room in the back of the women's locker room. There are a few dressing stalls and table where you can change your children.
Exit through the shower section of the locker rooms; of course do not to forget to stop at the showers for a quick rinse. We ask our members to rinse off, so the oils and dirt do not come off in the pool. Plus it is a NJ law. A quick rinse helps keep our pool cleaner for you and your family.
On the first day of your class, enter the pool area and have a seat on the bleachers. The instructors will go over the pool rules and call each child for their class at their scheduled time. If unsure about anything, please stop and ask the front desk staff or someone in the pool area.
