MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT
The YMCA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all members and guests. To promote safety and comfort for all, all individuals are asked to act appropriately at all times when in our facility or participating in our programs. We expect persons using the YMCA to act maturely, to behave responsibly, and to respect the rights and dignity of others. Our Member’s Code of Conduct outlines prohibited action, but the actions listed below are not an all-inclusive list of behaviors considered inappropriate in our facilities and programs:
- Using or possessing alcohol or illegal chemicals on YMCA property, in YMCA vehicles, or at YMCA sponsored programs.
- Smoking on YMCA property– the YMCA and its property is a smoke free environment.
- Carrying or concealing a weapon or any device or object that may be used as a weapon.
- Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language, or any type of menacing behavior.
- Physical contact with another person in an angry, aggressive, or threatening way.
- Verbally abusive behavior, including angry or vulgar language, swearing, name-calling, or shouting.
- Sexually explicit conversation, behavior or any sexual contact with another person.
- Wearing inappropriate gym or swim attire.
- Theft or behavior that results in the destruction or loss of property.
- Transferring of membership cards.
FACILITY POLICIES
The Gloucester County YMCA is committed to protecting the privacy of our members, volunteers, donors and guests. Facility Policies are in place to ensure a positive experience for all.
MEMBER & GUEST CHECK IN
For the safety and security of all members and guests, you are required to check in at the Welcome Center upon entry to the Y.
- Members: Your digital membership card is required for access into the facility. Members are required to scan their cards on each visit to verify current membership If you forget this card, you will be required to present photo ID at the Welcome Center. All members are required to have a photo on file for entry verification.
- Non-members & Guests: Check in at the Welcome Center is required on each visit. You will be required to present a photo ID and sign a liability waiver.
Failure to check in and sharing/transferring of membership card will result in denied facility entry and could lead to membership revocation.
FACILITY ACCESS BY AGE
- 0-11: Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult member over the age of 18 at all times unless child is in organized program.
- 12-17:
- Members must demonstrate successfully the proper use of equipment to work out without an adult member over the age of 18.
- 18+: Members 18 years and older will have full access to the facility.
AREA & EQUIPMENT ACCESS BY AGE
Cardio Room & Cable Exercise Equipment
- Ages 10-11: Children must always be accompanied by an adult member over the age of 18 unless the child is in an organized program.
- Ages 12-14: Members must demonstrate successfully the proper use of equipment to work out without an adult member over the age of 18.
- Ages 15+: Members permitted to use equipment safely must abide by Cardio Room rules and always wear appropriate gym attire.
Free Weights:
- Ages 0-13: Children are not permitted to use the free weight equipment at any time.
- Ages 14-15: Members must demonstrate successfully the proper use of equipment to work out without an adult member over the age of 18.
- Ages 16+: Members permitted to use equipment safely, must abide by Weight Room rules and always wear appropriate gym attire.
Gymnasium:
- Ages 0-11: Children must always be accompanied by an adult member over the age of 18 unless the child is in an organized program.
- Ages 12+: Members must abide by gym rules and always wear appropriate gym attire.
Pool:
- Appropriate swim attire generally includes swimsuits designed for swimming, like one-piece or two-piece suits for women, and swim trunks or briefs for men. Street clothes, underwear, and excessively revealing swimwear are NOT permitted. Swimming attire should be clean, designated for pool use, and made of materials like Lycra, nylon, or spandex.
- Ages 14 and +: Members must abide by pool rules and always wear appropriate swimming attire.
- Ages 14 and +: Members and guests must successfully complete the swim test or always wear a lifejacket unless accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water.
- Ages 13 and under: Members and guests must always be accompanied by an adult member over the age of 18.
- Parent/guardian must always remain in the pool area. If children are unable to swim, they must always wear a lifejacket at all times, unless within arm’s reach of parent in the water.
